2011 Bail and Penalty Schedule, direct from the State of California:
http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/reference/documents/2011_jcbail.pdf
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motorcyclist training. Anyone under 21 wanting to drive a motorcycle will be required to complete an approved motorcycle safety course. Upon completion, the driver will receive a motorcycle instruction permit that must be held for six months before receiving a motorcycle driver license.

Local traffic citations. Local law enforcement officials will no longer be authorized to ticket drivers for moving violations under municipal law or local ordinances. Under the new law, all moving violations must be cited under an appropriate section of the state vehicle code, which specifies penalties. This law takes effect July 1, 2011 and will provide uniform punishment for moving violations throughout the state.

Carpool lanes. Solo drivers in certain "green" (fuel-efficient, low-emission) vehicles with a DMV-issued carpool lane sticker will be able to continue using the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes until July 1, 2011. In addition, a new class of plug-in hybrid vehicles will also be able to use HOV lanes starting in January 2012.

Drunk drivers. If a person is convicted of three or more DUIs in a 10-year period, judges will be authorized to revoke the drunk driver's license for 10 years. This law does not take effect until January 1, 2012. The purpose behind the new law is to reduce repeat offenses by drunk drivers and decrease the number of drunk driving fatalities.

Higher traffic citation fines. All moving violation ticket fines will increase by $4. This law will remain in effect until 2016. Every vehicle-related or traffic infraction will cost $4 more than they did in 2010, raising an extra $34 million for Medi-Cal.

Street-sweeper cameras. Local agencies are now permitted to install cameras on street sweepers in order to digitally photograph illegally parked vehicles parked on streets during posted street sweeper times.

Other safety changes require all motorcycle drivers to complete a fifteen hour training course before earning a learner’s permit and laws increasing reckless driving penalties for paparazzi chasing celebrities.

A new law makes adults liable if an underage guest gets drunk and causes a car crash.

cities to install and operate cameras on street sweepers to digitally photograph vehicles that are parked on streets when street sweeping is posted to occur. Critics of the law are already comparing the plan to an Orwellian Big Brother plot, but this program literally would only photograph cars that are parked illegally.

Thanks to cuts to the state’s Medi-Cal program, motorists caught breaking the law will be charged $4 for the next six years to pay for emergency air-lifts.

a last new law wasn’t about change but about preserving the status-quo for “clean cars” and the state’s HOV Lanes. Hybrid vehicles adorned with the “yellow sticker” advertising its clean air status will be allowed to use HOV lanes as though they had multiple passengers until July 1 of this year. Cars with “white stickers” showing that they are electric or “compressed natural gas” will have HOV privileges until January of 2015. The new law creates a third sticker, for plug-in hybrid vehicles, to be issued and to allow access to HOV lanes also until 2015.

Mobile Billboard Advertising Displays (AB 2756, Blumenfield) This bill created Section 395.5 of the Vehicle Code, which defines “mobile billboard advertising display” as an advertising display that is attached to a wheeled, mobile, non-motorized vehicle that carries, pulls or transports a sign or billboard and is for the primary purpose of advertising. This bill also amended Section 21100 of the Vehicle Code to give local authorities the ability to adopt rules/regulations by ordinance/resolution to regulate mobile billboard advertising; this includes establishing penalties that could authorize removal of the mobile billboard advertising display. In addition, VC Section 22651 was amended to say that the mobile billboard advertising display may be towed when left parked or standing in violation of a local ordinance. Warning citations advising of the consequences, including towing of the mobile billboard display, are sufficient enough warning to the public.

registered in California, which does not bear the required applicable federal Environmental Protection Agency exhaust system label consistent with federal regulations. This law only applies to motorcycles manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2013, or a motorcycle with after market exhaust system equipment that is manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2013.

trick photography

The photo is taken on top of a tunnel, with white cars going in and black cars coming out, no pollution jokes intended. The main idea I had before I took the shot was to capture contrast and motion, which is why I picked vehicles as a subject. I took well over 100 different photographs and I probably used 25 shots to create this one. I think the hardest part was to estimate the positions of the cars and the amount of white and black vehicles. I made it even harder for myself by accidentally moving the tripod ever so slightly during the session, which was quite annoying later in the post processing.

fastest car, on ice... . Bentley - 205 mph

From http://ralfbecker.com/ which might sound familiar, Ralf is the man who makes ChromJuwelen.com
I read about this speed record just last week, but I can't recall where. Thinking a bit about it, doesn't it makes sense to go for speed records on frozen lakes? You won't have to worry about overheating, if you break anything, you don't have to get towed... just pushed, and there are a lot more frozen lakes than other land speed venues (the Australian dry lake Eyre and Gairdner, El Mirage, Bonneville, and Black Rock are the only areas I can think of that you have a long shut down area. The Maxton Mile, the New England Mile, and Ormond are limited if I recall correctly)

Warning, this isn't a censored video. Early race cars didn't have roll bars, safety fuel cells, or safety gear... guys raced, and sometimes died.

this video is a compilation of crashes, and unlike todays videos of incredibly designed race cars, the roadsters and early racecars in this video didn't have many features that could save the lives of the drivers. No padded dashes, no airbags, no steering wheels that will bend and are concave so you don't get the column through your sternum, no roll cages or tops of any kind to keep the driver in during rollovers, no seat belts, and nothing like a crumple zone.

I'm posting this video because it's just as important to show the deadly reality of the origins of racing as it is the glamour of the modern victories... you may comprehend present design better if you know the primitive designs of the past, and that guys died before changes were made to make racing safer. Earnhardt was the last driver to die in NASCAR. They made improvements in several ways so another driver will live through the circumstances that killed him.

Hoep you aren't bummed out about watching this video, but it's rare to see real racing video from before WW2

10 Tips for an Amazing Valentines Day

Valentines Day, also known as Saint Valentines Day, is a holiday which is celebrated each year on February 14th.  Valentines Day is the traditional day in which lovers express their love for each other by sending each other Valentines cards, flowers, or candy.  The holiday is named after two Christian martyrs named Valentine.  They became associated with romantic love and the day came to be.

Today, most people associate Valentines Day with the exchange of love notes and other symbols of their love.  If you are looking for some ways to show your love this Valentines Day, here are some tips to get you started:

Tip #1 – One of the best things you can do on Valentines Day is to write your lover a love note.  Don’t send an electronic greeting or purchase a card, spend the time to write an actual, traditional love note to someone you care about.  Your love note does not need to be long; however, it needs to be handwritten with some thought having gone into it.

Tip #2 – If you have zero writing skills, then instead of an all out love note, you can write down a list of the things you love about your lover.  A simple “I love you because…” list can go a long way to showing someone how you care about them.

Tip #3 – Place your love note on your lover’s pillow or if you will not see each other in the morning then you can have it delivered to them with some flowers or candy.

Tip #4 – If you want to add some creativity to your Valentines Day gift then you can create a scavenger hunt which your lover will have to follow around your house to find their gift.  You can leave clues around the house which all lead your lover to find the next clue, and then ultimately to find your gift to them.

Tip #5 – If you have a variety of gifts for your lover then you can start at the front door and run a string from one gift to another.  By doing this, your lover has to follow the string to get to their next gift.  You can use inexpensive kite string from the dollar store to string your gifts together.

Tip #6 – Rather than going out and fighting the crowds on Valentines Day, you can celebrate it at home by cooking for your lover, or you and your lover can cook a meal for each other, together.  Cooking at home can be both romantic and a lot more fun than going out and paying for an expensive meal out.

Tip #7 – If you are looking for a non-traditional gift to give to your lover this Valentines Day, consider making some coupons for them that they can redeem for a variety of things throughout the year.  You can make them for simple things like washing their car, or for more sensual gifts.  Thanks to home computers and cool paper, you can make some really great coupons or gift certificates in the comfort of your own home.

Tip #8 – If you are single this Valentines Day, there are many fun ways which you can spend the day or evening with friends.  On fun way to spend the evening is to have a “Valentines Day Sucks” party with your other single friends.  Each friend brings a romantic comedy movie and their favorite junk food to the event.  You spend the evening making fun of sappy movies and eating as much junk food as you want, just for one evening.

Tip #9 – Another fun way to spend Valentines Day if you do not have a lover to share it with, is to go to a very expensive restaurant with a friend and order the foods you have always wanted to try – including desert.  Take a long evening to enjoy the food and company of a good friend.

Tip #10 – If you will not be seeing your lover until a day or two after the big holiday, you can wait to purchase your flowers or candy until the later date and save a ton of cash.
